Car-sharing has many benefits and even more opportunities. In the Interreg North Sea Region project SHARE-North project, we believe it can contribute to solving mobility poverty. Autodelen.net has been experimenting with several innovative concepts in Belgium for many years in order to make car-sharing an inclusive mobility solution for as many target groups as possible. Translating Shared Mobility for Rural Areas: the Rosetta Stone for Car-Sharing in Small Towns

Autodelen.net proudly represented the SHARE-North project at WOCOMOCO 2017 on October 18-20th in Berlin. The World Collaborative Mobility Congress, or “WOCOMOCO” is all about shared mobility, just like the SHARE-North project. In the break out session concerning shared mobility options for rural areas, it was again proven how necessary a project like SHARE-North is and what a difference it makes, because the level of knowledge for how shared mobility can work in rural areas is still quite low. SHARE-North is working on creating awareness and this is also the motivation for writing this article: to spread the word, to give tips and tricks for rural communities on implementing car-sharing and to show that shared mobility is not just a hype. It is an essential element of sustainable mobility solutions of the future!

Shared mobility made wheelchair-friendly

In August 2016, the car-sharing provider and Taxistop spin-off organisation, “cambio”, launched its first wheelchair-friendly car in Belgium. They had received the request from ‘Onafhankelijk Leven’, a non-profit platform for people with a disability. By specially developing the wheelchair ramp, the new car is also usable for other users.
