Catch up on SHARE-North’s Webinar on “Promoting Social Inclusion through Shared Mobility”

Shared mobility solutions such as car-sharing and ride-sharing can be used as a method for improving accessibility and social inclusion in neighbourhoods, small towns and cities. In today’s webinar we heard about about innovative concepts for sharing wheelchair-friendly vehicles which are especially being promoted by Autodelen.net in Belgium. We also learned about ride-sharing services for the elderly which are being supported by Taxistop in Flanders and ANWB Automaatje in the Netherlands. All of the presented concepts are cost-effective and allow often isolated groups (e.g. the elderly or physically impaired) as well as individuals living in rural areas to take part in a normal life, to be just as mobile as other citizens and to connect with their communities.

The experts were:

  • Jeffrey Matthijs from the Flemish NGO Autodelen.net, initiator of the AVIRA concept
  • Angelo Meuleman from the Belgian NGO Taxistop, provider of mobility services for the less mobile
  • Gerard van den Bos from the Dutch organisation ANWB AutoMaatje, who coordinate volunteer driving services for less mobile people – a service inspired by Taxistop.
